After a lingering illness of some months, Elizabeth Aitken, widow of the late George Hume, passed away at her home here on Thursday, July 28th. Deceased was born on lot 3, 4th line, Esquesing, July 8th 1848, and celebrated her 84th birthday last month. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Aitken and Isabella Laidlaw and the last surviving member of the family. She was married on March 25, 1874 to the late George Hume who predeceased her 16 years last December. A family of three daughters and one son survive, Isabella Laidlaw at home; Alexander Davidson, town; Beatrice of the Public School staff, and Bessie, wife of P. J. Foxton of Toronto police force. Also three grandchildren, Mrs. Arthur Bird, Miss Ada Hume and Master Hume Foxton; and three great grandchildren, Donald, Douglas and Roy Bird. Mrs. Hume had been a resident of Georgetown since 1914 when she and her late husband retired from the farm. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church, a devoted mother and a true Christian woman, loved and esteemed by her family and all who knew her. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon to Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown, the service being conducted by Rev. Dr. Howard, assisted by Rev. Ross Cameron of Streetsville. The pall-bearers were six members of Knox Church Session, Wm. Barber, S. Harrison, R. B. Foults, A. Robinson, H. C. Clark and Hugh Black. There were many beautiful floral tributes from relatives and friends.
