- OBITUARY
Walter W. Hume, Jr. died peacefully Feb 28, 2008 after enduring a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born Sept. 24, 1934 in Haileyville, OK to Walter Woodrow and Mildred Eslick Hume. He grew up in El Reno, OK where his family and friends knew him as Corky. He had masters and bachelors degrees from CSU, and he taught math for 29 years. After retirement he enjoyed substituting disadvantaged children in Oklahoma City, and he learned how to play the guitar. He also had worked for the Rock Island Railroad and Phillips Petroleum in their engineering department. Walter loved his horses, mules and dogs, and raised a National Field Dog Champion Brittany Spaniel named Scipio Spinx. And he always found new things to do including taking courses in law and criminology. His most challenging accomplishment was building the family home. And he loved to play bridge with friends. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Sara Jane, his parents and sister, Margaret Burgess. He leaves his wife, Janet Stephenson, sons Jim, Del City and Gerald, OKC, sister, Wanda, OKC, aunt Georgia Rager, CA, nephews Charles Burgess, OKC and Daniel Burgess, VA and their families, sister-in-law and husband, Kathleen and Morris Kuper, OKC and sister-in-law, Jacqueline Stephenson, GA.. and other relatives and friends. He will be sorely missed. The family wishes to thank the Moore Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice of Norman for their excellent care. Donations may be made to Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland, 1000 W. Wilshire Blvd, Suite 364, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. He will be sorely missed. Services will be 2 p.m., Tues., March 4, 2008 at the Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
