Robert L. 'Roy' Hume

Robert L. "Roy" Hume, 83, of Charles City, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 26, 2010, at the 9th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Memorial services for Robert Hume will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor David Werges and Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.
The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday.
Robert Leroy Hume was born Feb. 2, 1926, at Charles City, the son of Robert A. and Gladys Irene (Waters) Hume, the fourth of eleven children. He received his education at McIntire and later received his GED. Roy proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Roy met Ann Mackamul in Charles City and they were married at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sept. 1, 1946. Roy worked at Salsbury Laboratories, Oliver Corporation, Charles City Western Railroad and the Charles City High School. Both Roy and Ann were instrumental leaders at the Charles City Senior Center, where Roy had served as president for many years and managed the Senior Center bingo. He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion and V.F.W. Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing. For many years he built a variety of grandfather, mantel and wall clocks for family and friends. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Schrodt, Hospice of North Iowa and the staff of 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home for the loving care they gave to Roy.
Living family members include his wife of 63 years, Ann Hume of Charles City; two daughters, Marcia (Jack) Taylor of Marble Rock and Cynthia (Lee) Chambers of Robins; four grandchildren: Michael (Gina) Taylor, Wendy (John) Dearth, Pamela (Ronn) Datema and Robert (Jill) Chambers; a great grandson, Douglas Taylor; four brothers, Albert (Edith) Hume of Ark., James (Cecelia) Hume and William (Diane) Hume, both of Texas, and Lawrence (Marie) Hume of Missouri; and three sisters, Marie Herman of Minnestoa, Margaret Lubbert of Riceville and Laura (Joe) Fal of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Hume; and two sisters, Bernice Miller and Doris Fee.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family or to Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 South Main, Charles City, IA 50616.
