Mrs. Jones, Lifelong Resident of That Town Passes Away

Sarah Ann Jeanette Hume, daughter of the late Robert W. and Sarah Ann Scholes Hume, was born in Moundville, Wis., November 18, 1868. Nettie, as she was always called, grew to womanhood in this community and was married to Henry E. Jones, December 18, 1889. Immediately following their marriage, they began home making on the farm where they have resided continuously except for a few years spent in Washington and California. To this union eight children were born: Pearl Eliza who died at 4 years of age , Robey (Mrs. W. E. Maltbey) Hume, Everett, Lois (Mrs. Marvin Harvey) and Harlan, all married and living in California; Merriel Robert, died at 3 years, and George Walker, at 14 months also preceded their mother in death.
A busy useful life was hers, her strength and inspiration given freely with no thought of reward. Faithfulness, courage, humility, friendliness were her characteristics.
Mrs. Jones posssessed to a marked degree a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ which gave to her life poise and direction and the peace that passeth understanding. Early in life she joined the M.E. church of Moundville, where she was active in all departments. But the application of principles of Christianity in the every day life were her chief concern.
Coming back to Moundville for the summer, after three years in California, Mrs. Jones seemed especially happy to visit with relatives. Then swiftly and quietly she passed away at 12:30 Monday morning, July 13. Services were held Friday, July 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Moundville M. E. church. Rev.[illegible] officated. Mrs. Blanche Powell, accompanied by Miss Ruth Scholes, sang "One Sweetly Solumn Thought" and "Sweetly Resting." The body was laid to rest in the family plot in Moundville cemetery.
Besides the bereaved husband and children, there are nine grandchildren : Jean, Elwin and Winston Maltbey; Lawrence, Lois, May Ann, Esther and Eunice Jones, and Robert Merriel Harvey, all in California. There are also three brothers, Robert, Will and George Hume of Endeavor; two sisters , Mrs. Margaret Berry, Sioux Falls, S. D., and Mrs. Eliza Voertman, Portage, Wis., and a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
Six nephews acted as pallbearers, Glen and Merl Hume, Clayton and Wayne Russell and Walter and Willard Jones.
The beautiful flowers and the many expressions of sympathy from relatives and friends from far and near testified of the love and esteem in which she was held.
