      The daughter of Joseph L. Hyatt and Elizabeth Harris Hyatt, was born at Florissant, St. Louis County, Missouri, on August 26th, 1861, and departed this life on May 31st, 1942, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 5 days.

      She united with the Cold Water Methodist church at an early age and was a devout Christian all her life, becoming a member of the Slater church in 1910, when she with her family moved to Saline County.

      She received her education at Blowitt's Seminary at Jennings and Pittman's school for young ladies at St. Charles.
      On November 19, 1884, she was united in marriage to Robert Breckenridge Hume, of Florissant, and to this union was born three children, Virginia Elizabeth, Joe Hyatt and Robert Stanton, who died in infancy.

      Due to ill health, Mrs. Hume in recent years made her home with her daughter, Mrs., Silas Thompson, on her farm five miles west of Slater, where her death occurred at 10 a.m. Sunday following an attack of pneumonia.
      She is survived by her husband, Robert B. Hume, her daughter, Mrs. Silas Thompson; her son, Joe H. Hume; three grandsons, Robert, James and Joe Thompson, One brother, Robert L. Hyatt, of Mar?shall, survives, and one sister, Mrs. E.F. Douglas, of Pennsylvania, pre?ceded her in death. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews one of whom, Mrs. Hayes Kilgore, of Erie, Pa., had been a guest in the home the past month and whose presence and help has been greatly appreciated by all.

      Mrs. Hume was a devout Christian and spent the active years of her life in administering to the needs of her family, her neighbors and her friends.

      Funeral services conduced by Rev. A.C. Stormont, assisted by Rev. W. B. McKee, were held at the Slater Methodist church Tuesday, June 2nd, at 2:30 o'clock p.m., and burial was made in the Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall.
