DEATH: Opal Maple, 2314 Catherine Drive, Galesburg, IL 61402-1402, maple@misslink.net

From Opal Maple, 2314 Catherine Drive, Galesburg, IL 61402-1402, maple@misslink.net:

He settled in Culpepper County, Va. in 1736.

He was a resident of Frederick Co., Va. in 1747. On Jan 11, 1747/48 he and his wife, Mary agreed to separate because of differences, disputes and quarrels.

From "Abstracts of Wills, Inventories & Accounts of Patrick Co., Va." abstracted, edited and published by Lela C. Adams in 1973 in the following will:
      P. 82. Date 4 June 1805. Item: Will of Bethany (Bethary) Haynes. Mary Jones of Surry County, North Carolina came forth and makes oath of the last will and testament of Bethany Haynes. To son Joshua, all that part of land that lies on the north side of the old spring branch to the big branch called Sooks Branch. The balance of the land divided between four sons, Bethany Haynes, William Haynes, Lyles ? Haynes and Joshua Haynes. With the following rescune ?, that his wife Morning Haynes have that household furniture and stock and a third part of the produce raised on the plantation. Returned: Januarty Court 1806.

From the book, "Carroll Co., Va. 1765-1815" by John Alderman. "Bethany Haynes - The sketch has to be short for so very little is known concerning him. There were five households of Haynes in the early records of Henry County, and most likely he descends from some of them. What is known is that he had a survey of 175 acres on Pauls Creek in 1788, having acquired the rights to the property from Stephen Center (Henry, Survey 1-348). In due course, he obrained the land grant, and he is listed among the Patrick County tithables after that county was formed from Henry. His will is probated in Patrick (W.B. 1-82); it was written June 4, 1805 and probated at Januart Court 1806 which suggests that he died late in 1805. His estate was left to his widow Morning Haynes and to four sons: Bethany Jr., Joshua, William, and Lyles Haynes. The will was probated upon the evidence of a Mary Jones of Surry County, North Carolina. A more accurate list of the boys can be obtained from a deed made in 1807 (Patrick, D.B. 3-234) in which the male heirs of Bethany Haynes, deceased, conveyed to Joshua Haynes their interest in the 175 acres; the deed proves that there were 5 sons, not four: Bethany, Jr., Archibald, William, Luster and Joshua. Joshua had 71 acres surveyed on the Indian Fork in 1796 (Patrick, Survey 1-104), and William had 39 acres survey ed on the Bushy Fork of the Dry Fork of Stewarts Creek in 1790 (Henry, Survey1-388). Later records suggest that the family moved away from Pauls Creek after Bethany died, that Joshua and Archibald established themselves on Lovills Creek, and the others moved away. There were likely daughers whose names are not found in the old records." Page 342.
