      In the Name of God Amen, I George Hume of the County of Madison and State of Kentucky being in a low state of health but thanks to God in my proper Senses and Sound of mind and knowing the certainty of Death and there is a time for all men to die do constitute this my Will and Testiment [sic.] and after all my just Debts are paid it is my desire that with what Blessings the Lord hath blest me with be Disposed of are in the following Manner to wit

      Item I give to my beloved wife all the Tract of Land I now live on and all the rest of my Estate both real and personal during her life or widowhood and after her widowhood every thing is to be Sold and Equally divided between my Three Sons and Six Daughters and the Two Grand Children that is now Living with me which I name Thomas Hume Larkin Hume Stanton Hume Elizabeth Hume Martha Hume Caty Hume Frances Hume Emma Hume Susannah Hume. These are the Two Grand Childrens names Early Finks and Liousa [sic.] Finks which is to have the one tenth part divided between them two and if either of those two Grand Children dies before they come of age or have Lawfull heirs the other is to have the deceased (?) part. If both die under age and without Lawfull heirs there [sic.] parts is to returne from whence it came, and if other of my Sons and Daughters dies under age or without Lawfull heirs those part is to Returne to be divided amongst the other Brothers & Sisters.

      I also Give my wife the Privelidg [sic.] of Giving these Children that lives [with] her after marriage or Coming of age household furniture or Stock if She can Have it [illegi.] to be valued by three disintrusted [sic.]

      I also give her leave if she Sees Cause to Sell a part of the Negros [sic] and the money to be equally divided among my Children there is to be laid in money for Schooling of Emma and Susannah and they to be maintained out of my estate untill the age of Eighteen Years Except married.

      Lastly I Constitute my Three sons, Thomas, Larkin and Stanton Hume Executors of this my last will and Testament witness my hand and seal this Twenty fifth day of July one thousand Eight hundred and Sixteen.

      State of Kentucky, Madison County Set

      I William Irvine Clerk of the Court for the County afforesaid [sic.] do hereby certify that at a court held for the County aforesaid ------(illeg.) day the third day of February 1817 This Instrument of writing was produced in Court and proven to be the last will and testament of George Hume Deceased by the oath of Andrew Briscoe and Isaac Duncan witneseth thereto and the Same Ex and has been duly recorded in my office. Atteste Will Irvine.

      Janet Zehr, a descendant of Emma Hume, has visited Susanna and George's
      graves in Waco, KY, on the experimental farm of Eastern KY University. The tombstones read George Hume (21 May 1759-Oct 21 1816) and Susannah Criglor (1762-1831). Also buried in the graveyard is a Catherine Duncan (grave
      says daughter of George Hume, 1798-1840) and a Susannah Hume (1806-1828).

      George's tomb reads:

      Beneath this tomb doth lie
      As much friendship as could die
      Which when alive could pleasure give
      To all with whom he did live.
