      According to "Some Lesser-Known Huguenots on the Hackensack," by Howard I. Durie (from the Bergen County History 1971 Annual):

      "About 1704 he purchased from Abraham Ackerman a tract of about 260 acres of land along the north side of what is now Midland Avenue, running from the Hackensack River on the east, in River Edge, to the Sprout Brook in Paramus on the west. This had been formerly owned by Andries Thibout (Thybaut). In 1712 he bought from Captain Ryer Ryer a 'slip' of land containing about 'a half bushel sowing' along the river and near the northeast corner of the larger tract."
