According to Deanna Barron Smith:
Redcrest was built by U. G. Orndorf, who was possibly related to the Orndorf of Parlor & Orndorf Plow Works, which later became International Harvester. He built the house for himself and his new bride, a servnat girl. Canton society never accepted them as a couple, so they moved to California where he built a replica of Redcrest.
