Family Tree

In the 800 years since the first Home appeared on the scene the family has grown quite substantially. Homes have made their mark in all walks of life and in most of the countries around the world. The task of cataloguing such a vast and spreading family tree is immense.

Initially we will concentrate on the direct line of the Earls of Home (in the form of scanned pdf documents available to download) but aim to progressively grow this to encompass all branches of the clan and family. This will be a long term project and we will be calling on the expertise and knowledge of clan and family members far and wide to provide information about their particular branch.

If you would like to be involved in this process we would welcome your input but would suggest that this will be quite a serious undertaking as we will required several generations worth of information and historically accuracy. If you would like discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact us at familytree@clan-home.org

There are many websites which already map large areas of the Home family tree. These sites also often have forums and other means of exchanging family history. Some of the better sites are listed below:

DNA Heritage Project

Mention was made at our most recent AGM of the possibility of embarking on a DNA Heritage project.

The project traces the Y- Chromosome, the male chromosome carried by all men; for our purposes, therefore, we need volunteers from the different lines of Homes/Humes to make comparisons and eventually to arrive at linked relationships and common antecedents. I’m afraid only male Homes or Humes can participate to make this exercise valid, and we really need at least a dozen people. The hyphenated names which imply descent from a female Home won’t actually qualify, unfortunately.

The cost will be $137, or approx. £70 per person, and the whole exercise can form part of the same project. Will all those who would like to participate, and it only requires a little mouth swab, please get in touch at: DNAproject@clan-home.org

I hope we shall get at least a dozen people and the scheme can then be given to DNA Heritage.

The final result ought to reveal many common threads and I believe will be fascinating from a genealogical point of view. The Robertson clan found it a very rewarding exercise.
